Freddy Galvis signs one-year deal with Phillies

Freddy Galvis, best known for his work at shortstop and second base, has signed a one-year, $2 million deal (see Todd Zolecki's story here). The contract helps the two sides avoid arbitration and leads Galvis into his fifth season with the team.

The 151 games Galvis played last season were, by far, the most he has completed in his major league career. Now 26 years old, the Venezuelan-born infielder showed some improvement in 2015. In just over 600 plate appearances, Galvis collected 147 hits and 39 walks, good for a .302 on-base percentage. He collected 26 extra-base hits and finished with a WAR of 1.3, good for seventh overall on the team.

A near $1.5 million raise is in store for Galvis, who took home $513,500 last season.

Galvis, along with Jeanmar Gomez and Jeremy Hellickson, filed for arbitration with the Phillies yesterday.
