The Flyers opened the preseason on Monday night with games in New Jersey and Brooklyn, splitting up the training camp roster into two teams, primarily made of rookies.

In both games, the Flyers failed to record a goal.

The Flyers lost to the Devils, 2-0, and to the Islanders, 3-0, opening the preseason with two shutout losses.

The Flyers managed to hold their own fairly well into the late stages of the second period in both games. Both first periods were scoreless.

With 2:09 left in the second, Nick Lappin buried a rebound past Alex Lyon to put the Devils on the board.

The Devils would go on to add an empty-net goal, also by Lappin, with 31.4 seconds left to seal the game.

The Flyers were 0-for-7 on the power play in this game, while Lyon stopped 28 shots in the loss. The Flyers were outshot, 30-21.

The first two periods in Brooklyn were scoreless before the Islanders finally broke through on a 5-on-3 at 4:28 of the third. Shane Prince managed to slide a low shot past Anthony Stolarz to give the Islanders the lead.

At 8:48, the Islanders struck again, taking advantage of some sloppy defensive zone play by the Flyers. Joshua Ho-Sang was in front of the net and buried a rebound to make it 2-0.

The Islanders added an empty-net goal by Michael Dal Colle with 2:34 remaining to ice the game.

Stolarz made 33 saves in the loss. The Flyers were outshot, 36-28.

The Flyers return to the ice on Tuesday night when they host the New York Islanders. The opening face-off is set for 7 p.m.
