For the second straight week, 60 minutes was not enough for the Flyers and Bruins.
But instead of needing a shootout to end this one, a breakaway chance would be enough for the Bruins.
Ryan Spooner scored on a breakaway at 1:48 of overtime to give the Bruins a 1-0 win over the Flyers on Saturday night at TD Garden.
The first three periods featured some good scoring chances, great goaltending and tight defensive play. The Flyers carried the play through most of the second period but in the third, the Bruins began to push back, generating more chances and forcing Steve Mason to be on top of his game.
Mason made 22 saves in his final preseason tuneup. Tuukka Rask stopped all 27 shots for the Flyers.
It was another solid game for the Flyers penalty kill, who successfully killed off all four Bruins power play chances. The Flyers were 0-for-2 on the power play.
Next up for the Flyers, the games really begin. After a 4-2-2 preseason, the Flyers will begin the regular season on Friday night when they face the Los Angeles Kings at 10:30 p.m.
The Flyers first three games come on the road against the Kings, Arizona Coyotes and Chicago Blackhawks before the home opener on Oct. 20 against the Anaheim Ducks.
