Philadelphia 76ers president of basketball spoke to the media following Thursday's deadline, and the first topic he touched on was Ben Simmons. The first overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft will not play this season after his scan showed that his bone has not fully healed.

"The plan as stated today is that he will sit out the rest of the year. The scan indicated there's not full healing in the bone."

While it may not come as a surprise to most at this point, hearing that his bone hasn't fully healed is really concerning not only from the Simmons end of things, but the Sixers medical staff and doctors as well. For an injury that normally takes 2-3 months to heal, it's now been nearly five months and there's still not full healing. This doesn't fall all on Bryan Colangelo, but more so on the people that have built his recovery program and the timeline for his rehabilitation.

"We want to make sure no matter what the case, Ben Simmons only takes court when it shows complete healing."

Simmons injured his foot at the end of September, had surgery in October and while the normal recovery time is 2-3 months, Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported on February 16 that a January 23 scan showed Simmons' foot had not fully healed. That's a bit of a head-scratcher considering Bryan Colangelo said that the scan was clean in an official Sixers.com story on January 24. Now, a February 23 scan showed the bone had not healed and he'll miss the remainder of the season. Late last night, WIP reported that the scan didn't go as planned and that it showed a fracture.

"He's heartbroken. Wants to play, be out there. It's eating him alive, I'm sure."

Colangelo said the plan is to have Simmons ready to go for Summer League play and have the ability to suit up with the new picks prior to the 2017-18 season.
