Carmelo’s game winner crushes Sixers

The Philadelphia 76ers lost to the New York Knicks 109-110 on a Carmelo Anthony game winner with 0.3 left on the clock. Just……..ouch. A true heart breaker. Three Sixers had double doubles, including two 20/10 numbers.

The Sixers led for most of the first quarter, although they ended up down at the end of it. The Knicks lead the entire second quarter, but the Sixers hung around. Then, the Knicks eventually led by 17 points in the 3rd quarter. The Sixers fought hard to come back. Sixers got it within single digits late in the 4th. Last time they were down single digits was in the 2nd quarter. Eventually, with 9 seconds left, the Sixers took a one point lead.

Now, if you'll remember, Sixers legend TJ McConnell hit a buzzer beater over Anthony to win the game for the Sixers in January. Now, the Knicks were looking to return the favor. Anthony made a tough fade-away jumper to give the Knicks that 110-109 lead. The Sixers failed to get a shot off to win.

Dario Saric became the first Sixers rookie to get at least 18 points and 11 rebounds in 4 straight games. Very impressive. He also set a career high in rebounds as he had 15. For all of the Joel Embiid talk, Dario has been very good as well for the Sixers. He finished with those 15 rebounds and 19 points as well as 5 assists.

The Sixers had two players finish with 20/10 games. Jahlil Okafor had 28 points and 10 rebounds. Robert Covington had 20 points and 10 rebounds. It wasn't enough.

Perhaps Anthony didn't want another McConnell moment. Maybe he was venting frustration. In any case, he destroyed the Sixers in the first half and the Sixers never really could recover. Yeah, they made it back and took the lead, but once again, Anthony took care of business. It's kind of funny, the Sixers were hanging around in this game the same way the Wizards were against the Sixers last night.

The Sixers lost a tough one, and the streak of losing at Madison Square Garden continues. Next game is against the Golden State Warriors on Monday. That's bound to be a tough game, but you know the Sixers won't go down quietly.
