Midway through the Flyers 2-0 loss to the St. Louis Blues on Monday night, rookie Travis Konecny took a hard hit along the boards and never returned to the game after playing 8:13.

After just one game back in the lineup from his two-game benching, Konecny will miss even more time with a lower-body injury. Konecny is out for four-to-six weeks, as GM Ron Hextall announced on Tuesday. The injury has been reported as a knee and ankle sprain.

Konecny has seven goals and 22 points this season, good for fifth on the team, in 51 games. The 19-year-old was one of the team's first-round picks in 2015 and quickly turned heads in juniors on a fast track to the NHL.

This is the first time Konecny is missing time due to injury. He sat out the previous two games as a healthy scratch and also was scratched on Dec. 30.

The four-to-six week timeline sets Konecny up for a mid-to-late March return, when the Flyers will have somewhere around 15 games left in the season.

The injury comes at a bad time for the Flyers, who currently hold the final wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference, but have been struggling of late and are clinging to playoff hope.

Matt Read, who was a healthy scratch on Monday, is expected to return to the lineup for the Flyers next game.

The Flyers next take the ice on Thursday when they host the New York Islanders at 7 p.m.
