The Philadelphia Phillies are getting closer to setting their final roster for Opening Day on April 3. On Tuesday, they made another cut that will impact the 25-man group they take to Cincinnati, releasing veteran outfielder Chris Coghlan.

Coghlan, 31, signed a minor league pact with the Phillies in early February, after a down year that had him slashing .188/.290/.318 261 at-bats. This spring for the Phils, the 2009 Rookie of the Year hit just .231 and was 0-for-6 over the last three games.
