Phillies tab Hellickson for start against Orioles with Opening Day 3 weeks away

SARASOTA, Fla. — With Opening Day just three weeks away, the Philadelphia Phillies (8-7-2) will send RHP Jeremy Hellickson to the mound for a spring training matchup against RHP Kevin Gausman and the Baltimore Orioles (9-6) at Ed Smith Stadium.

Prior to the game, the Phillies shrunk their big league camp roster to 53 by sending the following five players to minor league camp: right-handers Drew AndersonAlberto Tirado and Victor Arano, along with outfielder Dylan Cozens and southpaw Elniery Garcia. Infielders Rhys Hoskins, Scott Kingery, catcher Chance Numata and outfielder Andrew Pullin were reassigned to minor league camp on Sunday.

In three appearances and nine innings this spring, Hellickson, 29, has allowed five runs on 13 hits and two walks while striking out five batters.
