Earlier today, Ryan Lawrence of PhillyVoice.com reported that the Phillies could be placing outfielder Howie Kendrick on the disabled list. It didn't take long for that to come to fruition, as the veteran outfielder has officially been placed on the 10-day disabled list with an abdominal strain.
Additionally, the contract of RHP Mark Leiter Jr. has been selected from Lehigh Valley (AAA).

Taking his place on the roster for now is 22-year-old right-hander Mark Leiter Jr. from Triple-A. Selected in the 22nd round of the 2013 draft, he's the second member of his Phillies draft class, in addition to Andrew Knapp, to make the big league team this season. Leiter has appeared in two games thus far for Lehigh Valley, allowing one earned run over 5.1 innings, striking out 11. His Ironpigs teammate Ben Lively took to Twitter, congratulating Leiter on the promotion.

Last season with Double-A Reading, Leiter went 6-3 with a 3.39 ERA in 23 games, 17 of which were starts, so he can eat up some innings if the Phillies need him to, especially with Zach Eflin and Vince Velasquez starting the next two games. Leiter appeared in one game during Spring Training, tossing a scoreless inning with a strikeout.
Mark Leiter Sr. played for the Phillies in the 90's, making the Leiters the second father-son duo to have played for the Phillies, joining the Amaros.
