It was one year ago today, April 11, that many awoke to the news that Flyers founder and chairman Ed Snider had passed away at age 83. That day will live forever in Flyers history.
This season was a reason to celebrate a history and legacy of a franchise that has stood the test of time. Marking 50 years of Flyers hockey was more than just a celebration of an organization. It was a nod to Mr. Snider.
It was bittersweet then when Sunday night's season finale rolled around. It was April 9. One year earlier, Lauren Hart sang "God Bless America" with Ed Snider on Facetime on her phone, so he could see the raucous environment of Wells Fargo Center one last time. The Flyers beat the Penguins, 3-1, that afternoon, clinching a playoff spot.
This past Sunday, also April 9, the Flyers were closing the 2016-17 season for good.
Despite that, whether the Flyers are still playing and preparing for the playoffs come April 11 or not, it is a day to remember the reason the Flyers even exist and their timelessness on the city of Philadelphia. So today, we look back at the life and legacy of Ed Snider once again.
