It’s becoming “more likely” Furkan Korkmaz will join the Sixers this year

According to Tom Moore from Bucks County Courier Times on Twitter, Bryan Colangelo is not opposed to bringing SG Furkan Korkmaz from Turkey to Philly this season.

Korkmaz was drafted in the 2016 draft with the 26th overall pick, spending that whole season in the Turkish League – teammates with current Sixer Dario Saric.  Korkmaz was 18 years old when being drafted and turned into one of the many "draft and stash" foreign players for the Sixers.

Korkmaz has a skillset that generally translates to the NBA. He is a 6'7" guard who is developing a sharpshooter-like skillset. Korkmaz will fit extremely well into the Sixers offense, providing them with shooters. Most importantly, however, these types of shooters will help spread the floor, creating more space for Embiid to work from under the basket. In today's NBA, spreading the floor has become necessary and players like Korkmaz, who scare the defense with elite shooting ability, make that possible.

It is not yet known how the buyout of Korkmaz's Anadolu Efes contract will commence, whether it be outright or paid over a series of smaller payments.

Korkmaz will need to bulk up and become NBA ready in all aspects before joining the Sixers. He also is a sub-par defender, but is working hard to improve in his weaker areas.

This year, however, could be his chance to contribute to the Sixers offense.
