Brandon Roy on Markelle Fultz: “that kid’s an NBA All-Star”

By John Wetzel, Sports Talk Philly staff

On The WIP Morning Show, Raphael Chillious, who helped recruit Markelle Fultz to Washington had a lot of good things to say about the potential Sixers' pick.

"I'm watching the game and I just can't keep my eyes off of this 5'9" kid who's all over the court, playing every position, doing everything right….by halftime I was convinced." said Chillious regarding 15 year old Fultz.

After watching him more throughout his high school career, Chillious knew he had something special with Fultz, "As it went along, probably going into that Summer of his senior year, I kind of felt like he was the best player in the country." Even though Fultz was not even a top 200 recruit at that point.

"I didn't know [he'd be the number one pick] until he got on campus and I remember our guys were playing pickup and some of our pros were there in the gym. Brandon Roy was there and saw him play for five minutes and said '[Chillious] that kid's an NBA All-Star.'"

"His movements are sort of like an octopus, trying to guard him, trying to contain him is like trying to put eight pairs of socks on an octopus." Said Chillious regarding what's special about Fultz' game. An interesting way to describe it, but no doubt that is a special quality.

Not only does this show that Chillious and Roy have an eye for talent, but it would be extremely good news for the Sixers if they're right about Fultz' caliber of play. The Sixers already have two players with potential All-Star level talent in Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons and adding a third would be a huge piece of the process.

The NBA draft will be tomorrow starting at 7 PM Eastern time. The Sixers will be picking 1st, 36th, 39th, 46th, and 50th. Sports Talk Philly will keep you updated with draft coverage and breakdowns of the the new Sixers' players.
