Phillies Round 1 Pick Haseley goes 3-for-4 in Debut

Adam Haseley didn't skip a beat when he made his GCL Phillies debut on Tuesday, just a couple weeks removed from being drafted No. 8 by the Phillies in the 2017 MLB Draft.

The 21 year-old outfielder out of the University of Virginia made his presence known early on with an eye-opening effort in his team's 8-6 win over GCL Yankees West in the Gulf Coast League season opener.

Haseley went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored for the GCL Phils, and started his first professional game batting in the third spot.

He's 6'1", 190 pounds, and hits from the left side.

Sports Talk Philly's Tim Kelly had a chance to talk with Scott Grove, Haseley's senior year of H.S. coach after the draft about just the kind of player Adam is, and the kind of player the Phillies should expect to have in their system.

"He is the total package as a human being," Grove said of his former player. "He is by far the most quality person that I have coached in 20 years of being a coach in high school baseball."

The Phillies are familiar with stellar professional debuts, as Mickey Moniak, the 2016 No. 1 pick, opened eyes in his GCL debut last season, when his first hit was an RBI single.

Although it's early on and only one game into his pro career, hopefully the Phillies and their fans have caught a glimpse of the future that is Adam Haseley.
