Sixers sign Maryland guard Melo Trimble as undrafted free agent

According to Chris Haynes of ESPN, the Sixers have signed undrafted guard Melo Trimble to a deal post-draft.

Trimble played three seasons as a Terrapin and was a key player on those teams. It was highly expected that Trimble's name wouldn't be called on Thursday night, but it is also expected that he would make an impact on whatever team he plays for.

The Sixers took three power forwards and a point guard in Markelle Fultz in the draft on Thursday, so it is not surprising that their first undrafted free agent is a 6'3" guard.

Trimble averaged 17 points, four rebounds, and four assists for Maryland during his senior season.

Trimble is said to be a fantastic shooter when he takes the right shots, but struggles with his shot selection which is a cause for signs of low shooting percentage.

Trimble's jump shot mechanically is terrific, typically he is on balance, and follows through high while being able to get into his shot very quickly. His percentage being as low as it was as a sophomore can likely be attributed to the high degree of difficulty shots that he at times settles for. He needs to continue to improve his shot selection and understand the value of open shots versus low percentage, contested shots off the dribble.- Draft Express

It seems that Trimble has the potential to be a key threat as a point guard, and for now he seems like a good fit at the one off the bench for the Sixers if all pans out following Summer League.
