As the Philadelphia Phillies continue to struggle at the big league level, a handful of their prospects continue to flourish at the minor league level. Third base prospect Mitch Walding was just named the Double-A Eastern League Player of the Month for June after an impressive 25-game stretch.

Walding, 24, was selected by the Phillies in the fifth round of the 2011 MLB Draft out of St. Mary's High School in California and is in his first full season of Double-A ball with Reading. During the month of June, Walding slashed .337/.398/.848 with four doubles, two triples, 13 home runs, 27 RBIs, 21 runs scored, 78 total bases and a 1.246 OPS. He led all Eastern League players in homers, RBIs, runs scored, total bases and OPS and tied for the league-lead in extra-base hits (29).

Overall this season, Walding is hitting .244 with 10 doubles, four triples, 20 homers (leads league), 48 RBIs and 42 runs scored. His .566 slugging-percentage is good for third best in the Double-A Eastern League.

Walding's big month of June raised his batting average 46 points, jumping from .198 to .244.
