The Philadelphia Phillies have lost four of their last five games and started off their road trip on Monday night with a 7-4 loss to the Padres in San Diego. They held a slim lead for a little more than half of the game, but the bullpen couldn't hang on to the small advantage. Despite the loss, there were two big positives that came from the game in the form of rookie slugger Rhys Hoskins.

After going hit-less through his first three Major League games, Hoskins broke through with his first big league RBI and hit on Sunday afternoon against the Mets. The 24-year-old followed it up with not only one, but two home runs against the Padres on Monday night at Petco Park, his first long balls of his young career. His first one flew over 400 feet and left the ballpark at 110 miles per hour and gave the Phils a 2-1 lead.

"I think it's something that, obviously, you dream about," Hoskins told reporters about his first home run. "You dream about getting here. But you dream about hitting a home run here. I don't know. I don't really remember it, to be completely honest."

San Diego scored four runs in the sixth to take the lead after Philadelphia went to the bullpen. Starter Jerad Eickhoff lasted only five innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits, striking out five and walking three. Ricardo Pinto came in and surrendered five runs on four hits in two innings, putting the Phillies in a whole they wouldn't hit themselves out of on Monday.

Offensively for the Phillies beyond Hoskins, Freddy Galvis and Odubel Herrera each went 2-for-5 with Herrera notching his 36th double of the season. Despite some head-scratching blunders in his career, the kid can produce. Since the All-Star break, the 25-year-old native of Venezuela is slashing .383/.450/.692 with 11 doubles, two triples, six home runs, 17 RBI, 19 runs scored, 19 strikeouts, 12 walks and two steals. Odubel is ranked third in Major League Baseball in doubles with 36.
