Robert Covington named as candidate for NBA.com’s early Sixth Man Award

Despite the more likely possibility of Robert Covington being the starting small forward for the Sixers this coming season, the national media once again seems to think differently about a Sixers scenario.

According to Fran Blinebury of NBA.com, he listed Covington as one of his candidates for an early NBA Sixth Man Award in 2017-18.

The only issue with this prediction is that Robert Covington, as of right now, is the starting small forward.

Blinebury seems to be under the impression that Ben Simmons would be playing small forward this season, when in actuality, he's still very much a power forward.

"He averaged 12.9 points and 6.5 rebounds as a starter last year, but now will move to the bench with the arrival of Ben Simmons. That’s the perfect place for this guy that can score from outside, attack the boards and also be a top-flight defender."

A part of this blurb to be mentioned is that Blinebury doesn't believe the Sixers "are there yet," to being a winning team, which for most people, would not fly for this season.

I could personally see Covington being back in the running for Defensive Player of the Year again, where he finished fourth last season behind Rudy Gobert, Kawhi Leonard, and winner Draymond Green.

But to say that Covington isn't even a part of the starting lineup is a slap in the face for a guy that actually fits the position better than anyone on the team.

On a more humorous note, doesn't Fran Blinebury look like Arnim Zola from Captain America except with hair?
