The GOAT of Twitter: NBPA names Joel Embiid ‘Best Social Media Follow’

By Josh Liddick, Sports Talk Philly editor

If you were surfing social media in one way or another, especially on Twitter, then you already knew how big of a presence Joel Embiid was on the inter webs.

Besides tearing it up on the basketball court in 31 games for the Sixers, Embiid used a lot of his free time to express his opinions on Twitter, earning him a ton of praise that almost got him an NBA All-Star selection for, at the time, to get a date with Rhianna.

The NBA Players Association announced their player's choice awards today, and Joel Embiid was selected as "The Best Social Media Follow" in the NBA.

Much of Embiid's popularity over the last year has stemmed from his hilarious tweets and conversations with fellow teammate Ben Simmons.

The fans have undoubtedly rallied around Embiid, and social media is a big part of that.

Sometimes social media can be a distraction, but in rare cases, it actually can help grow the sport and popularize certain players.

Joel Embiid has been that guy this past season, and because of that, he's been rewarded with this latest award.

The Social Media award is the second award given out by the Player's Association to Embiid, as he was also voted the NBAPA Comeback Player of the Year as well.

Below are a few of Embiid's tweets that made him the NBA's 'Face of Twitter' this past regular season.
