Flyers Place Matt Read on Waivers to Reach 23-Man Roster

By Kevin Durso, Sports Talk Philly editor

The Flyers made their roster official on Monday by making the final move necessary to get the roster down to 23 players.

Veteran forward Matt Read was placed on waivers. If Read clears, he can be sent to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, but whether or not that happens remains to be seen.

Read has spent the last six seasons with the Flyers since the 2011-12 season. Last season, Read scored 10 goals and added nine assists in 63 games. In his career, Read has 86 goals and 100 assists for 186 points in 418 games.

If Read clears waivers and does go to the Phantoms, the Flyers would get $1.025 million in salary cap relief, bringing Read's cap hit down to $2.6 million.

The Flyers left for California on Monday afternoon with Sam Morin, Travis Sanheim and Shayne Gostisbehere all making the trip. Gostisbehere was injured in the third period of Sunday's preseason finale, forcing the Flyers to keep eight defensemen on the roster entering the season. The severity of Gostisbehere's injury is not known, but the fact that he is on the trip is a good sign.

With Read being placed on waivers, the Flyers 23-man roster is as follows:
