The Flyers carried eight defensemen on their west coast trip in the event that Shayne Gostisbehere, who suffered an injury in the preseason finale, was unable to play. Gostisbehere played in all four games.

As a result, Travis Sanheim sat out one game, with Brandon Manning sitting out the other three as a healthy scratch. The odd man out was Sam Morin, who didn't play in any of the four games despite making the trip.

The Flyers officially loaned Morin to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms on Wednesday, leaving them with seven defensemen on the roster and 22 players on the roster.

Morin had a solid preseason, scoring a goal and adding an assist in five games.

By joining the Phantoms, Morin will begin his third season in the AHL. In his first two seasons, Morin has combined for seven goals and 28 assists for 35 points in 150 games.

The move means that Sanheim will stick in the NHL. Sanheim played in three games on the road trip and has yet to record a point.

The Flyers take on the Washington Capitals on Saturday night in their home opener at 7 p.m.
