Carson Wentz speaks for first time since suffering ACL injury

It’s been a very difficult week in Philadelphia sports. I’m sure at this point no one really cares a whole lot about the Sixers losing streak though after seeing Carson Wentz tear his ACL against the Rams on Sunday. On Monday, all of our fears were confirmed when Doug Pederson told reporters that the Eagles’ second-year signal-caller had suffered a torn ACL and would be out for the season.

Since the injury, professional athletes all over the country have taken to social media in support of Wentz and his upcoming recovery, but Carson spoke for the first time since Sunday’s game on Twitter Monday night, thanking everyone for the support and that he plans to come back stronger than ever and the injury will not stop him.

Wentz finishes the 2017-18 season with a 60.2 percent completion rate, throwing for 3,296 yards and an Eagles’ franchise-record 33 touchdowns. ESPN’s Chris Mortenson reports that Wentz will have surgery in the next couple of days and that Eagles fans should prepare for a 9-12 month recovery period.

The Eagles have overcome a lot of adversity this season already when it comes to injuries, losing Darren Sproles, Jason Peters, Ronald Darby and Jordan Hicks just to name a few. Wentz is obviously the biggest loss they’ve encountered and now it’ll be up to Nick Foles to lead the Philadelphia Eagles moving forward, just a few seasons removed from leaving the field with a lead in the playoffs.
