Flyers Prospect Update: 5 Flyers Advance to CHL Conference Finals

By Kevin Durso, Sports Talk Philly editor

It’s on to the conference finals in the CHL’s three leagues and five Flyers prospects remain in the running to play for the Memorial Cup with just 12 teams in the CHL left playing.

Carter Hart is the Flyers lone representative left in the WHL and German Rubtsov is the only representative out of the QMJHL. Three Flyers prospects are still playing in the OHL.

Here is a look at the seven prospects fared in the last round.

WHL

Carter Hart – Hart suffered a 5-2 loss in Game 1, making 31 saves, but rebounded for four straight wins. He posted a 26-save shutout in Game 2. In Game 3, he stopped 40 of 42 shots. In Game 4, he stopped 42 of 44 shots.

Game 5 was an interesting game for Hart. He made 19 saves in the first 30 minutes of the game before exiting for the remainder of the second period due to illness. He returned for the third period and made 11 more saves to finish off a 30-save performance — he was not credited with a shutout — in a 4-0 win for Everett to take the series.

OHL

Morgan Frost – It took a full seven games, but Frost and the Greyhounds are moving on to the conference final. Frost continued his stellar season in the conference semi-finals, scoring three goals and adding six assists for nine points in the series, including three assists in the 9-7 win in Game 7.

Maksim Sushko – Sushko and the Owen Sound Attack didn't advance thanks to the Greyhounds, but Sushko finished a strong playoff performance. He scored one goal and had four assists in the series, including a three-assist game in Game 3.

Matthew Strome – Strome continued his strong playoff run with two goals and two assists in four games in Hamilton’s five-game series win against Niagara. Strome did not play in Game 4 due to a minor neck injury.

Connor Bunnaman – Kitchener advanced to the conference final as well with some help from their captain. Bunnaman had two goals and two assists in the six-game series as Kitchener defeated Sarnia.

Anthony Salinitri – Salinitri missed the last two games of Sarnia’s first-round series and the first five games of the series against Kitchener recovering from a broken collarbone. Salinitri did return for Game 6 and scored a goal in Sarnia’s 6-2 loss that ended their season.

QMJHL

German Rubtsov – Acadie-Bathurst swept Sherbrooke to advance to the conference final and it was a big series for German Rubtsov in limited playing time. Rubtsov was suspended for Game 2, so he only played in three games in the series. He scored three goals and had one assist, including a three-point game in Game 3.
