Lively returns from disabled list, optioned to AAA Lehigh Valley

By Paul Bowman, Sports Talk Philly Staff

There has been a lot of talk about who would be sent down when the injured starters on the Phillies roster returned. With Ben Lively returning, it seems that the decision has been made.

Lively seems to have drawn the short straw as he will be optioned to AAA Lehigh Valley.

With an injury to Jerad Eickhoff, the Phillies called upon Ben Lively to fill the vacant starter role. That was, until he too suffered an injury and the team turned to Zach Eflin.

Not including the start which put him on the disabled list with a back strain, Lively was 0-1 with a 4.64 ERA in four starts. Eflin took advantage of the opportunity Lively’s injury provided, however, posting a 0.71 ERA in the 12 and two thirds innings he pitched in his two turns through the rotation. The Phillies have been impressed with Eflin’s pitching as of late and will keep him in the rotation for the time being.

It is yet to be seen who will be the odd man out of the rotation upon Eickhoff’s return.
