Heyman: Dodgers Pull Ahead as ‘Leading Contender’ for Machado

By Matt Rappa, Sports Talk Philly editor

Contrary to late-night reports regarding the Philadelphia Phillies' willingness to part ways with No. 2 prospect Adonis Medina — who greatly intrigues the Baltimore Orioles — the Los Angeles Dodgers appear to have pulled ahead as the "leading contender" to acquire superstar Manny Machado, according to Fancred's Jon Heyman.

Heyman writes:

The situation remains fluid, and the Brewers, Phillies and Diamondbacks could still become involved in the late stages of the race to acquire the perennial American League All-Star, who previously played at third base. But for now the Dodgers have emerged as a clear leader and could be close to acquiring the infielder for the remainder of the 2018 season.

If dealt to the Dodgers, Machado, 26, would replace injured shortstop Corey Seager, who underwent Tommy John surgery in early May following a right ulnar collateral ligament sprain.
