Phillies Option De Los Santos to Triple-A Following Stellar Debut

Philadelphia Phillies No. 11 prospect Enyel De Los Santos gave his club all it could ask for while making his major league debut Tuesday evening against the New York Mets at Citi Field.

In 6 1/3 innings, the right-hander allowed three runs on five hits and three walks, while punching out six batters spanning 94 pitches and 58 strikes. De Los Santos threw first-pitch strikes to 16 of his 26 batters faced, and also induced eight swinging strikes, five ground balls and eight fly balls.

De Los Santos picked up the win, as the Phillies took the third of the four-game set, 7-3, in part thanks to third baseman Maikel Franco's four-RBI night.

Despite his success, De Los Santos was optioned after the game to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. In a corresponding move, right-hander Vince Velasquez (forearm contusion) will be activated from the 10-day disabled list on Wednesday. There simply was not room on the 25-man roster for a sixth starter in De Los Santos.

De Los Santos' Tuesday victory is likely the first of many wins for the 22-year-old, San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic, native.
