It Wasn’t Pretty: Eagles Beat the Colts, 20-16

With the return of Carson Wentz, Eagles fans expectations might have been a little bit high this week. But even though the offense under-performed by some standards we realistically have a lot of positives to take away from this week three victory

Despite two turnovers, Wentz had a good day leading the Eagles on a couple of long drives that resulted in touchdowns. He did this with 255 yards passing and one touchdown. He also showed off some of his mobility throughout the game, which should give Eagles fans some comfort. The Eagles were bolstered in the passing game by their two tight-ends and both Goedert with seven receptions and Ertz with five receptions had 73 receiving yards.

In the future the Eagles should be concerned with the lack of production from our receivers as they combined for 6 receptions and only 45 yards. As they cannot always rely on the running backs to pick up the slack. The backs especially Wendell Smallwood were very good today. Missing the number one and two options in Ajayi and Sproles, Smallwood produced with 56 rushing yards and a touchdown and even though Clement had a bad day returning punts with a couple close calls he was good as well with 56 yards rushing and three catches for 19 yards.

As for the Colts, despite the loss they still gave their best effort. Best news for the Colts was how clean the game was on the part of Andrew Luck. Luck threw for 164 yards and a touchdown with no turnovers. While the numbers are not impressive he seems to be finding his rhythm again after missing the better part of two seasons. The biggest problem for the Colts right now is the lack of a run game as they only managed 68 yards (33 of them on one scramble from Andrew Luck). Next on the Schedule for the Colts is a home game against the struggling Houston Texans.

As for the Eagles, they will take this 20 to 16 win in to Tennessee where they will face the Titans. The Titans, while they pulled out a win over the Jaguars could only muster nine points. With that said, the defense did look impressive, holding a Jaguars team who is fresh off of an upset over the Patriots to six points.
