In what should be a surprise to none, but a concern to all, Ruben Amaro all but confirmed today that Chase Utley will begin the 2011 season on the DL.

Ruben Amaro’s response when asked if Utley would start the season on the DL is below:

"I would think so." "We haven't seen him on the field yet and we're a week away. It's likely he's not going to be making our club, at least not right now."

When asked about Utley’s progression with the injury:

"Nothing new," Amaro said. "I think he feels better. We'll see. It's kind of a long term process. It's not going to happen overnight."

We all knew that this injury was something to worry about from the start. The fact that Chase hasn’t seen any live game action at all this spring because of it means that we’re very far away from our favorite Phillie returning to the lineup.

Paging Michael Young… Paging Michael Young…

In the meantime, if you need your Chase fix, and I’m sure you do, check out this new “MLB Opening Day” commercial for ESPN starring our sorely missed 2nd baseman.
