Shane Victorino Activated From Disabled List, John Mayberry Jr. Sent Down

The outcome that Phillies fans have been waiting a few days to hear about, who would be sent down to AAA Lehigh Valley when Shane Victorino returns? John Mayberry Jr. It was either Mayberry or Rule 5 Draft pick Michael Martinez who are both young, versatile infielders and outfielders. Mayberry went 24-104 with three home runs and 12 RBI in 24 games, while Martinez thus far has gone 9-49 with a double and 3 RBI in 27 games.

It would make more sense to send Martinez down. But that would mean clearing waivers and sending him back to Washington. Not a bad idea, either, the Phillies have plenty of infield depth on the farm and in Lehigh Valley including Delwyn Young who has already spent a great deal of time in the majors with the Dodgers in 2006-2008, and the Pirates in 2009-2010.

Thankfully with Mayberry, they can send him down and call him up whenever Charlie needs him.

With Victorino back, tonight's game in Pittsburgh should feature the first normal lineup of the season, which should look like: Rollins, Polanco, Utley, Howard, Ibanez, Victorino, Brown, Ruiz, Hamels. Such perfection.
