Pitching Prospect Jarred Cosart and Catcher Sebastian Valle in Futures Game

Posted by Danielle Wilson

In last night's Futures Game in Phoenix, Arizona, Phillies pitching prospect Jarred Cosart (42nd on MLB.com's list) pitched a perfect eighth inning, striking out two, via Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Daily News. His curve and changeup reached 97. In Clearwater this year, Jarred is 7-6 with a 3.23 ERA. He has allowed 73 hits in 92 innings, walking 36 and striking out 68.

Sebastian Valle, Clearwater's everyday catcher appeared in the game as a pinch hitter in the sixth inning, and doubled down the line. Sebastian is having quite the season hitting .324 in 54 games. He has batted in 28 runners and has 69 hits this year, three of those homers, two triples, and 14 doubles. His fielding percentage of .996 most likely earned him that Futures Game spot.

In other baseball news, the Home Run Derby is tonight! Who do you have as the champion? With the way Jose Bautista has been tearing it up, I say he'll blow away the competition.
