Roy Halladay Makes Start In Series Opener Against Brewers

Halladaylad
The Phillies barely escaped a sweep at the hands of the Giants yesterday. It was too close to call as the Phils took their second game in a row into extra innings. Unlike Saturday's game, the Phils were able to rally up a walkoff hit as Jimmy Rollins knocked in Carlos Ruiz with a single to win the game. They won the game, but still lost the series.

At 42-54 and 66 games left to play, it's really hard to see the Phillies going to the playoffs this season. They're sitting 14 games back in the NL East and 10 1/2 games back in the Wild Card. If you do the math, they'd need to win 88 games just to make the benchmark. That means they'd have to go 46-20 to get in the post-season this season.

Today starts another series as the Brewers come to town for three games. Roy Halladay (4-5, 3.96 ERA) will get the ball tonight as he opposes a Brewers lineup that consists of MVP Ryan Braun, Aramis Ramirez and Rickie Weeks. Pitching against the Phillies will be former-Phillie Randy Wolf (3-6, 5.60 ERA).

In Roy Halladay's return last Tuesday against the Dodgers he was a bit rusty. It's understandable because he hadn't pitched in a Major League game in over a month and a half. Doc tossed five innings against the Dodgers, allowing five hits and two earned runs. The Good Doctor also struck out six while walking none. Halladay is making just his 13th start of the year as he takes on the Brewers, a team he has some success against. In 27 2/3 career innings against the Brewers, Halladay is 2-2 with a 4.88 ERA.

On the hill for the Brewers is lefty Randy Wolf, who is coming off of his first win since April 30th. On Tuesday against the Cardinals, Wolf tossed 6 2/3 innings of two-run ball. Wolf yielded eight hits while striking out six and walking one. Wolf, a fomer-Phillie (1999-2006), has only pitched 43 innings against his former team in his career. Wolf has a 3-2 record with a 3.98 ERA against the Phillies.
