Phillies IF Freddy Galvis is Reinstated By MLB As Suspension Ends

Freddy Galvis is back.   But he's not.

Today Major League Baseball reinstated Galvis from his suspension from his violation from the drug testing program.

Of course, with a broken back, Galvis will not be able to play.  His injury to his back will take some time to heal, and Matt Gelb reports that the Phillies will see if Galvis can play some ball over the winter to get back into baseball shape for the spring.

It seems silly that a player can be suspended during a disabled list stint, basically the equivalent of not missing any time at all because of the injury.   But, it helped the Phillies save $133,000 they would have paid someone not giving them anything, so it sure seemed to work for the Phillies.     Current Padres pitcher Edison Volquez also served a suspension for a violation of Major League Baseball's drug policy while on the disabled list.

Galvis should, then, be ready in time for next season.
