Roy Halladay Shaky in Five Innings, Chase Utley Drives in Three in 9-5 Win Over Marlins

The Phillies and Marlins aren't going anywhere after this series. For the Marlins, that's been obvious since August. For the Phillies, that was settled last night after their 2-1 loss to Miami last night which knocked them out of the playoff race. Their chances are over, this is pointless baseball from here on out. To add to that, Ryan Howard's season is also over as he'll spend the rest of it on the disabled list with a broken toe. Tyler Cloyd is also done, he has a "tired arm" and will miss his final start on Tuesday.

Roy Halladay got off to another rough start tonight in Miami. He allowed four straight hits, and three runs would score in the inning altogether. Giancarlo Stanton brought home two of those runs with a single, and Rob Brantly brought home the other with a single of his own. 3-0 Fish.

The Phillies got two runs back in the top of the second when Pete Orr doubled to deep center, bringing home Nate Schierholtz and and Domonic Brown.

In the bottom of the third, Stanton led off the inning with a solo home run to DEEP left field, back above the Clevelander. 4-2 Miami.

In the fifth, Roy Halladay reached on an infield single, followed by a single from Jimmy Rollins. Both scored on a single from Chase Utley, then Utley scored on an RBI triple from Dom Brown. Phils lead 5-4.

After five innings, Roy Halladay's night (and season) was complete. His line: 5 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 7 K, 1 HR. His ERA of the 2012 season is settled at 4.49. That's his highest ERA since the 2000 season.

After a scoreless sixth tossed by Jeremy Horst, the Phillies extended their lead in the seventh thanks to Carlos Ruiz. With Rollins and Utley on base, Chooch drilled a double to deep center, bringing them home and making it a 7-4 ballgame.

Horst tossed 1/3 of the eighth before giving way to Justin De Fratus who retired the side in order.

Chase Utley picked up his third RBI of the night in the bottom of the eighth with a single which sent home Jimmy Rollins from second. 8-4 Phils.

Phillippe Aumont put two men on in the bottom of the eighth and did not record an out before Antonio Bastardo came in. Bastardo walked Greg Dobbs to load up the bases for Gil Valezquez who singled to bring home Stanton. Austin Kearns struck out, but Carlos Ruiz lost the ball only to toss it back to Bastardo in time to get Carlos Lee for the final out of the inning.

Darin Ruf doubled off the scoreboard in center field in the ninth, and was sent home on a single from Kevin Frandsen. 9-5 Phils.

Jonathan Papelbon came in for the final three outs of this ballgame. He allowed a single to Donovan Solano, an infield single to Jose Reyes, then another infield single to Giancarlo Stanton. Carlos Lee popped up for the second out, then Greg Dobbs struck out. Phillies win, 9-5.

In the final game against the Marlins tomorrow afternoon, Cole Hamels and Nathan Eovaldi will square off at 1:10.
