Ezequiel Carrera Goes Back Where He Came From

The Indians did not want Ezequiel Carrera on their major league roster, so the Phillies claimed him.   The Phillies did not want Ezequiel Carrera on their major league roster, and now the Cleveland Indians have claimed him, reports CSN Philly's Jim Salisbury.  The Phillies designated Ezequiel Carrera for assignment on Tuesday to make room on the roster for outfielder Delmon Young.

Out of options, Carrera would be subject to be exposed to waivers to give all teams a chance to claim him before he could be sent to the minors.  That is how the Phillies claimed Carrera and now how the Cleveland Indians got him back.

Why the move? Indians outfielder Nick Swisher has been out of the lineup the last couple days with a sore shoulder.  That the Indians are adding Carrera could mean that Swisher is headed to the disabled list.  That may be a short stay for Carrera, as former Phillies outfielder Michael Bourn may be coming back from the disabled list shortly.

Carrera went 1 for 13 for the Phillies.  Last season Carrera hit a respectable .272 for the Indians in 147 at bats.
