So far this series in San Francisco has gone just the way the Phillies have wanted it to. Collecting wins in the first two games behind great outings from Cliff Lee on Monday and Kyle Kendrick last night as well as run support, the Phillies have already sealed the series win. This afternoon they will go for the sweep in the series finale as Jonathan Pettibone (2-0, 3.24 ERA) and Barry Zito (3-1, 3.06 ERA) take the hillat 3:45 PM ET.
Jonathan Pettibone won his second career start in a row against the Marlins on Friday. Pettibone, making his third start of the year in place of John Lannan (DL: knee), tossed 6 1/3 innings while scattering five hits and allowing an earned run. Pettibone has done a great job filling in Lannan's absence, allowing just six earned runs in 16 2/3 IP. He will look to continue as he takes on the Giants for the first time in his career this afternoon.
Barry Zito is coming off of a tough start against the Dodgers on Friday. Through five innings, Zito allowed an earned run on five hits, but walked four batters. He has received a no-decision in his last two starts and is looking to turn it around against the Phillies today. Over his last three, Zito has a 1.15 ERA (2 ER in 15 2/3 IP). In his career against Philadelphia, Zito has a 3-3 record with a 4.60 ERA (22 ER in 43 IP).
