Roy Halladay Seeks Redemption, Series Win In Sunday Finale With Kevin Slowey, Marlins

The Phillies went back to the pathetic bunch of tee-ball-skilled hitters last night (no offense to those of you who are parents of a tee-baller). Really? One hit against the Miami Marlins? C'mon, guys what happened to the can of whoop a** you put on them in the first two games? Cole Hamels allowed two home runs on four hits through eight innings, taking his fourth loss to bring him to 1-4 on the year. The only hit for the Phillies was a Freddy Galvis single in the first inning. It was just another display of the offensive-paralysis that the Phillies put out from time to time. This afternoon Roy Halladay (2-3, 6.75 ERA) will look for redemption after his horrible start in Cleveland as he takes on Miami's most consistent pitcher Kevin Slowey (0-2, 2.15 ERA), who has yet to earn a win this season in today's series finale.

Roy Halladay took a total 180 turn last Tuesday in Cleveland. After going 2-0 with a 1.71 ERA (4 ER in 21 IP) in his previous three, Halladay was shelled four eight earned runs on nine hits over 3 2/3 innings. Halladay surrendered three seperate two-run home runs to the Indians and took his third loss of the year. Don't blame it on the heat because it was 70° in Cleveland on Tuesday. Halladay will look for redemption as he takes on the Marlins for the second time this season. On April 14 Halladay went eight strong, allowing an earned run on five hits while striking out two against the Fish. In his career, Halladay has an 8-4 record with a 2.93 ERA (33 ER in 101 1/3 IP) against Miami.

Kevin Slowey has the numbers of what could be a 6-0 starting pitcher. A 2.15 ERA (9 ER in 37 2/3 IP), 29 K vs 6 BB, Slowey should be a consideration for the All-Star team, but because of his lack of run support Slowey has not earned a single victory this season. Now, Win-Loss records don't really matter, but it looks good on paper and Slowey has definitely pitched like an All-Star this season. In his last outing he breezed through the Mets' lineup, allowing an earned run while scattering four hits in eight innings, but took the no-decision – his fourth straight. Slowey is making his second start against the Phils, his second with counterpart Roy Halladay today. Back on April 14, Slowey allowed an earned run on nine hits through 5 1/3 innings to take the no-decision. In two career starts against Philadelphia, Slowey has an 0-0 record and a 10.29 ERA (8 ER in 7 IP).
