Tyler Cloyd Seeks To Rebound In Game Two Against Milwaukee

Cloydmarlins
So last night was a perfect opportunity for Cole Hamels to win a ball game…but he didn't. For the first time since April 7th he pitched with a lead, thanks to a Domonic Brown three-run shot (his first of two). It was not enough, however, as Hamels was tagged for six earned runs on a career-high 12 hits in last night's game. He was handed his 9th loss of the season and is on pace for the worst season of his career. The only good thing about last night was that Domonic Brown hit his 14th and NL-leading 15th home runs last night. After losing last night, the Phillies will send Tyler Cloyd (1-1, 5.74 ERA) to the mound to take on Wily Peralta (3-6, 6.35 ERA) in the middle game of this series.

Tyler Cloyd is coming off of his worst start of the season. Cloyd allowed six runs on nine hits (including two home runs) in just 2 1/3 innings Monday in a loss to the Red Sox. Cloyd struck out two, but enough was enough. In his only three starts, Cloyd has allowed 10 earned runs in 15 2/3 innings of work. In his previous start against Miami, Cloyd went seven innings deep, allowing two earned runs to take his first win of the year. Cloyd will be ,aking his fourth start of the 2013 season this afternoon and will look to even up this three-game set with the Brew Crew in his first career start against the club.

Wily Peralta is coming off of a rough outing as well. On Monday against Minnesota, Peralta gave up three runs on five hits in five innings. Peralta also walked five batters, a season-high. After starting the season 3-2, Peralta has dropped his last four starts, including a 1 2/3 inning outing against Los Angeles. Peralta was tagged for four runs on seven hits in that game. Peralta will aim to give the Brewers a 2-0 lead in this series as he takes on the Phillies for the first time in his career.
