Phillies Will Not Make A Roster Move Yet, Despite Having One Backup Outfielder

Does Delmon Young Have a Defensive Replacement? Nope.

The Phillies went into the All-Star break with three catchers after Ben Revere hit the disabled list and Erik Kratz returned from injury.  The assumption was that the Phillies would make a roster move before they returned to action tonight at Citi Field in New York against the Mets.  However, it appears the Phillies are standing pat for tonight.

Ryan Lawrence of the Philadelphia Daily News reports that a team official says that they will make no move today.

That would leave the only bench player who is an outfielder is Laynce Nix.  I suppose they could throw Kevin Frandsen or John McDonald out there if they really needed to, but that would likely only happen in an emergency.  Frandsen has 14 career games in the outfield and McDonald has six.  Or, the Phillies could pull Darin Ruf  from first base and put him in the outfield if need be.    If John Mayberry went down with an injury, the Phillies could have an outfield of Ruf, Domonic Brown in center, and Delmon Young in right.  That would be scary.

This could be a sign that the Phillies are close to a move of some sort and willing to take a short-term risk.  We shall see….
