MiLBY Award Winner Phillies Prospect Maikel Franco Likened To Domonic Brown

MaikelFranco

There is a neat piece on milb.com today about Phillies prospect Maikel Franco.   He is a winner of the MiLBYs - fan-chosen year-end awards for Minor League Baseball.  Franco was voted by fans as "breakout prospect".

Reading Fightin Phils hitting coach Frank Cacciatore had high praise for Franco, who likened his play to Domonic Brown:

"If you project him out to be 25 or 26 [years old] and he's had a couple years in the big leagues, I would expect him to be a real good contact hitter with a minimum number of strikeouts," said Cacciatore, who likened him to Domonic Brown and said he hopes fans will see him at Citizens Bank Ballpark within the next 12 months.

Franco could find himself in Major League Spring Training in 2014 and get a chance to spend some time with the big club.  Some think he could play himself onto the big league club.  Franco would have what the Phillies need: power from the right side.

Check out the piece here.

Chip Kelly Eschews Talk of Finding Eagles Quarterback of The Future

Chip QBChip Kelly bluntly discussed his philosophy on finding the Eagles quarterback of the future Wednesday.

Chip Kelly was as animated Wednesday as he's been since taking the Philadelphia Eagles head coaching job when talking about the need to find a quarterback of the future.

Moments after naming Nick Foles the starting quarterback against the Oakland Raiders Sunday Kelly was asked about the importance of long term thinking and ultimately finding a future franchise quarterback that would ultimately provide stability at a position that has been anything but this season.

Trying to provide any semblance of stability at the quarterback position, Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly on Wednesday named Nick Foles the starting quarterback Sunday in Oakland against the Raiders.

Foles was cleared to return to practice Tuesday following a concussion suffered on October 20th against the Dallas Cowboys and with Michael Vick out Sunday he gets the nod for the 3-5 Eagles.

"Nick did really well in practice yesterday," Kelly said Wednesday. "Nick will be our starting quarterback this week and he'll take the reps with the first team and we'll get ready as a team to take on Oakland."

Matt Barkley Disputes Chip Kelly's Goal Line Claim

Chip BarkleyIn the fallout of one of the most important and perplexing moment from Sunday's 15-7 Eagles loss to the Giants, head coach Chip Kelly and quarterback Matt barkley have vastly differing views.

On an afternoon filled with perplexing decisions and miscalculations by first-year Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly, one play stood out above the rest.

With Michael Vick already sidelined after aggrevating his hamstring and rookie Matt Barkley in the game Kelly called a naked roll out on first and goal on the two yard line trailing 12-0 at the time. What resulted was a disastrous fumble forced by Giants cornerback and former USC teammate of Barkley's Terrelle Thomas which stalled the Birds' attempt to pull the game within one score.

As if it weren't puzzling enough that Kelly chose this play with a rookie with less than two full quarters of NFL football under his belt, he ignored the league's leading rusher in LeSean McCoy standing in the backfield.
