Eagles Sign Wide Receiver Brad Smith

Brad SmithThe Eagles will reportedly sign wide receiver Brad Smith Tuesday.

The Philadelphia Eagles have announced that they have signed wide receiver and special teams specialist Brad Smith, Tuesday.

Smith passed his physical Tuesday morning and is practicing with the team at the Novacare Complex. To make room for Smith on the roster, the team has parted ways with wide receiver BJ Cunningham.

The team's interest in Smith was first reported by Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com.

From 2009-2012 Smith posted four kick returns for touchdowns and averaged 27.6 yards per return last season as a member of the Bills.

Smith likely will handle kickoff return duties in the short term as Damaris Johnson suffered an ankle injury but the Birds appeared to be on the verge of phasing him out of that role in recent weeks. Brandon Boykin also has taken on a share of kick return duties.

In seven NFL seasons Smith has only returned two punts which likely means that DeSean Jackson will continue to see time in that role moving forward.

As a receiver Smith has hauled in 101 receptions for 949 yards and five touchdowns.
