Eagles Camp 2014: Day 3 of highlights and happenings

Welcome home, Eagles.

The Philadelphia Eagles spent Monday’s practice in front of home fans at Lincoln Financial Field instead of the NovaCare Complex and continued their prep for the 2014 season.

Chip Kelly once again addressed the media, and discussed practicing in front of a crowd.

"It's fun," Kelly said. "Last time we were here, we lost to the New Orleans Saints. That wasn't very fun."

Here is the rest of the highlights and happenings from Day 3 at Eagles camp.

  • With the introductions done, the focus is getting to work. One Eagle who has been receiving a steady amount of work is first-round pick Marcus Smith II. He saw time with the second-team linebackers on Monday.
  • The kickers were on display on Monday as well. Alex Henery seemed to do fine with the usual training camp activities. Undrafted signing Casey Spears struggled early in the day, missing a 45-yard field goal badly, but recovering to hit a 50-yard field goal before the day ended.
  • Mark Sanchez continues to impress as a backup quarterback option for the Eagles. So has Matt Barkley, giving the Eagles two suitable backup options behind Nick Foles, in the extreme need for both.
  • The running backs were hard at work on Monday working on screen plays. Darren Sproles was noticeable for his quickness, which doesn’t seem to be in decline, while LeSean McCoy continued to see the bulk of the work as the team’s leading running back.
  • Injury Report: Riley Cooper spent practice playing without pads but did have limited participation. Bennie Logan sat out practice for a second day while getting work on the exercise bike. Chris Polk also sat out practice on Monday.
  • Toward the end of practice, a fight ensued for a second straight day. Jeremy Maclin and Bradley Fletcher mixed it up on the field with punches being thrown. Again, it was downplayed following practice, with Maclin declining to speak about it with the media following practice.

The Eagles have a day off on Tuesday and will hold practice again on Wednesday morning beginning at 11:45 a.m. at NovaCare Complex. Chip Kelly will address the media before practice while Nick Foles and DeMeco Ryans are expected to speak after practice.
