Preseason Week 1 Preview: Eagles at Bears

It’s time for real football. This is no practice on Friday. This is a game. And it’s about time the Eagles made their return.

Friday’s game is nothing more than a first look at a lot of players. As with most preseason games, the end result is not what is ultimately important. The results on the field in game situations, based on prior practices and an offseason to mold the roster are important.

Some players fans will get to see for the first time include rookies on offense like Jordan Matthews and Josh Huff or a newcomer to the Eagles in Darren Sproles.

The Eagles new look defense, including the likes of Malcolm Jenkins, Marcus Smith II and even seventh-round pick Beau Allen, will be the subject of much of the attention.

The Eagles had an incredibly successful offense in 2013 and honestly, there isn’t much new to discover about the Eagles first-team. Chip Kelly has said the starters will get 10-15 snaps.

The second-team, however, is about depth and seeing who the Eagles have as extras to build the special teams and extend the possibilities on both offense and defense.

Injury Report: The Eagles will likely be without Riley Cooper, Chris Polk and Julian Vandervelde on offense. Jeremy Maclin has been dealing with some injury scares this week, but assured on Wednesday he will play. Defensively, Bennie Logan and Nolan Carroll are likely out for Friday’s game.
