Facing the Rams in Week 5, the Eagles opened up a 27-point lead and nearly let it slip away. In Week 6, facing a division rival, they opened up the same lead and never looked back.
The Eagles scored 10 points in the first quarter and 10 more in the second quarter to open up a 20-0 halftime lead. Behind stiffling defense and a much-improved and balanced offensive attack, the Eagles rolled to a 27-0 win over the Giants on Sunday night at Lincoln Financial Field.
The Eagles took the ball first and opened the scoring with a solid drive that stalled in the redzone. Cody Parkey made a 31-yard field goal.
With just under four minutes remaining in the first, Nick Foles connected with Zach Ertz, who made a diving catch in the endzone, for a 15-yard touchdown.
Foles would hit another tight end for the Eagles second touchdown in the second quarter. This time, it was James Casey who was wide open downfield and Foles found him for a 26-yard touchdown.
Parkey added a 45-yard field goal with 4:25 remaining in the half to cap the first-half scoring.
The Eagles nearly gave the Giants points midway through the third as Foles threw an interception to Zack Bowman to give the Giants excellent field position. But three yards shy of the endzone, facing 4th-and-goal, the Giants took the chance and went for the touchdown.
On the ensuing play, Eli Manning's pass to Victor Cruz hit off Cruz' hands as he reached for his knee in pain. Cruz suffered a torn patellar tendon on the play and his season may now be in jeopardy.
The Eagles turned the turnover on downs into a 97-yard touchdown drive, capped by a 15-yard touchdown run by Darren Sproles, capping the scoring with 5:26 to play in the third.
The Eagles doubled the Giants total in first downs, winning that battle, 24-12. The Eagles offense posted 448 yards of total offense. The Giants had 253 yards of offense.
The Eagles recovered a fumble in the fourth and also made a pair of late stops to seal the shutout win.
Foles was 21-for-34 for 248 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. LeSean McCoy turned in his best performance of the season, rushing for 149 yards on 22 carries. Sproles had 39 yards on seven carries and one touchdown before leaving the game with a sprained knee.
Riley Cooper led all receivers with five catches and 59 yards. Jordan Matthews had 50 yards on four catches. Ertz had 47 yards on three catches and one touchdown.
Nate Allen led the Eagles with six tackles. The Eagles also had eight sacks. Connor Barwin had three, Vinny Curry had two and Brandon Graham, Trent Cole and Brandon Bair had the other three.
Manning was 13-for-23 for 151 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. Andre Williams led the running backs with 58 yards on 16 carries. Rueben Randle led all receivers with 58 yards and five catches. Cruz had two catches for 16 yards before his injury. Odell Beckham Jr. had two catches for 28 yards.
The Eagles now head into the bye week tied for the NFC East lead at 5-1. They return in two weeks to face the Arizona Cardinals in Arizona on October 26 at 4:25 p.m.
