Brayden Schenn, Mark Streit, Wayne Simmonds and Braydon Coburn scored. . Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek each added two assists a piece. Steve Mason wasn't extremely busy but made some ten bell saves when called upon and the Philadelphia FLyers ended their four game losing streak with 4-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets in Philadelphia.
Brayden Schenn got the Flyers on the board early in the first with a deflection goal at 2:37. Jakub Voracek took a shot from just above the circle and Schenn deflected home his 7th of the season for a 1-0 Flyers lead.
Boone Jenner would tie the game just under two minutes later with a powerplay tally at 4:36. It was a shot that was in and out so fast the refs originally called no goal. After a short review, the call was reversed and the Jackets had tied it at 1-1.
The rest of the first would go back and forth until the 14:35 mark when Mark Streit would slam home his own rebound to give the Flyers a 2-1 lead. It was Streit's 4th goal of the year. Streit took a pass from Giroux and converted his own rebound for the goal.
The second stanza would start out slowly but the pace soon picked up. By the end of the period the Flyers would outshoot Columbus 18-4 and hold a 29-15. The lone goal of the period was scored by Wayne Simmonds.
Simmonds caught the rebound of a Voracek shot and deposited it behind Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky. The powerplay goal was Simmonds' 8th of the year. Voracek and Giroux got the assists.
The third period began with flurry. Columbus scored just 2:06 in to cut the lead to one at 3-2. Matt Calvert picked up his second of the year with a slam dunk goal off a great pass from Jack Skille. Less than a minute and a half later Braydon Coburn would put the Flyers back up by two.
Bobrovsky lost his stick on the play and the Flyers capitalized. Coburn fired a blast from the point that beat the former Flyer netminder for the final score of the night. The Flyers would outshoot Columbus yet again 8-7 in the period and 37-22 for the game.
The win moves the Flyers to 8-9-2 on the year. The loss drops Columbus to 6-12-3. The Flyers next game is Monday night in Long Island versus the Islanders. Game time is 7:00.
