The Flyers were dealt a similar hand to the one they couldn't take advantage of on Saturday. The Oilers were coming in without their captain and leading scorer Taylor Hall. Craig Berube didn't want to hear it.
After Saturday's loss, the Flyers didn't care who was playing or who was hurt. Play a solid game, get a solid result.
The Flyers turned in their best game of the season on Tuesday night. Behind two goals from Jake Voracek and 35 saves from Steve Mason, the Flyers defeated the Oilers convincingly, 4-1, at Wells Fargo Center.
Voracek opened the scoring, extending his points streak to six games. After attempting a no-look pass in front, Voracek took the carom from the blocked chance and turned it into a wrap-around goal.
The Flyers winger didn't stop there as a puck sat perfectly in the slot following another blocked chance. Voracek buried the loose puck past Victor Fasth for his second goal of the game and fifth of the season at 16:04 of the first.
In the second, the Flyers continued to capitalize on chances as Zac Rinaldo set up Chris VandeVelde for a shot from the slot that was deflected home by Pierre-Edouard Bellemare for his second goal of the season at 4:09.
The Oilers would get on the board at 9:54 as Ryan Nugent-Hopkins raced up the boards and past two defenders to beat Mason with a nifty move. It was his fourth goal of the season.
The Flyers got the goal back courtesy of the Schenn brothers. It was Brayden Schenn setting up Luke Schenn for his first goal of the season. The goal was also Luke Schenn's 100th career point.
The third period featured more of Mason as he kept the score where it was for the remaining 20 minutes.
The Flyers were 4-for-4 on penalty kill, remaining perfect on home ice.
The Flyers improved to 5-5-2 on the season. They continue the homestand on Thursday night against the Florida Panthers.
