Flyers trade Timonen to the Windy City

Flyers general manger Ron Hextall has announced veteran defenseman Kimmo Timonen has been dealt to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for a 2015 second round pick and a conditional pick in 2016.

Timonen was set to make his season debut tomorrow night as the Flyers take on the New York Rangers at the Wells Fargo Center. He has missed the entire season with blood clots in both his lungs and legs. Earlier this month, Timonen was cleared to resume skating.

He was acquired along with Scott Hartnell from the Nashville Predators on June 18, 2007. He is a five time Barry Ashbee award winner as the Flyers best defenseman. Over the past seven seasons he has been the Flyers best defenseman carrying the torch after Eric Desjardins retired.

Be sure to check back tomorrow as our Kevin Durso will highlight Timonen's time here in Philadelphia.
