Phillies try to snap six game skid, avoid sweep at the hands Rockies

The Philadelphia Phillies will try to end their second six game losing streak of the season and avoid a series sweep to Colorado Rockies this afternoon. They are trying to avoid their second consecutive series sweep. Aaron Harang gave the Phillies six strong innings yesterday but it was not enough. Jerome Williams will take the mound today. Game time is 1:35.

Jerome Williams last pitched on Tuesday against the New York Mets. He earned a no decision in six innings at Citi Field. The Mets managed three runs over six innings before he gave way to the bullpen. The Phillies managed to tie that game late before losing in extra innings.

Williams allowed five hits in addition to the three runs over the six innings in that start. He struck out four while walking four . The six innings broke a streak of five straight starts where did not make it out of the fifth.

Jordan Lyles will make his return to the starting rotation after a toe sprain sidleined him for a week. Prior to the injury, Lyles had gone 0-4 with a 7.43 ERA in his last five starts following a 2-1 start to his season. 

Lyles injured the toe last Saturday against the San Francisco Giants.

  • Cesar Hernandez hit his first home run of the season in the eigth inning yesterday. It was his first home run in over a calendar year. He is hitting .250  with one home run and nine RBIs in 78 at-bats

  • The Phillies have not been swept in back to back series this year.
