Eagles place Cody Parkey on IR, sign Caleb Sturgis

You can add another injury to the list, but this one might not hurt as much.

Kicker Cody Parkey has been placed on injured reserve with a groin injury and is out for the season. The Eagles held tryouts for free-agent kickers on Monday and have signed Caleb Sturgis to replace Parkey.

Parkey was 3-for-4 in field-goal attempts this season, his one miss being a possible game-winning 44-yard field goal in the season opener in Atlanta. Parkey was also 7-for-7 on extra points.

Parkey's struggles go back to the end of last season. Overall, the 23-year-old kicker was 32-for-36 on the season and a perfect 4-for-4 on attempts from 50 yards or more, but his two misses in the Eagles Week 16 loss to the Redskins helped end their playoff hopes.

Sturgis, 26, is a third-year kick, spending his first two NFL seasons with the Miami Dolphins.

Last season, Sturgis was 29-for-37 in field-goal attempts, including 3-for-6 on kicks from 50 yards or more. The previous season, Sturgis was 26-for-34 in field-goal attempts. His career field-goal percentage is 77.5 percent. His career long field goal is 54 yards.
