It is dubbed "Black Monday," the day when many NFL coaches face the ax on teams that will be looking for a fresh voice.
The Eagles kicked everything off a week early, firing Chip Kelly last Tuesday. Since then, five other teams have joined in their own coaching searches.
The Miami Dolphins and Tennessee Titans have operated under interim coaches for several weeks now and will be looking for permanent coaches in the offseason.
The Cleveland Browns fired coach Mike Pettine on Sunday night. San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Tomsula got the ax on Sunday night as well. Tom Coughlin "stepped down" as coach of the New York Giants on Monday.
In addition, three other teams currently face a decision on whether to keep their current coaches or join the search. The New Orleans Saints and Sean Payton could part ways, but Payton spent a majority of Monday meeting with GM Mickey Loomis. He isn't expected to address the media until Wednesday.
It was expected that the coaching job with the Colts could open up, but the Colts and Chuck Pagano reached a contract extension on Monday night, removing one potential landing spot for coaches.
The potential job with the Detroit Lions may not be available, at least not yet. Ownership is willing to retain Jim Caldwell, but is leaving that up to the new, yet-to-be-hired GM.
As for Chip Kelly, he is drawing some interested from teams around the league, but the origin of the interest in conflicting. According to CSN's Derrick Gunn, league sources had said that Kelly was drawing interest from San Francisco, New York, Cleveland and Tennessee. However, it is rumored that Kelly reached out to the 49ers expressing interest in the job. Rumors of interest for Kelly in New York and Tennessee were also shot down in conflicting reports.
Lastly, one more update on the Eagles front. Though nothing is confirmed, Alex Marvez reported that Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter is "on the Eagles radar" for an interview. No interview has been scheduled just yet.
