Earlier this week, the Eagles began building their roster back up by giving new contract extensions to tight ends Zach Ertz and Brent Celek.
In the days following Ertz's new deal, the Eagles were believed to be working hard to get new contracts completed for several other players, among them Lane Johnson.
That deal is done. The Eagles officially announced an extension with Johnson on Friday morning that will keep the tackle with the team through the 2021 season.
Adam Caplan of ESPN was the first to report that the deal would extend Johnson for five years through 2021. Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports adds that the six-year deal is worth up to $63 million with $35.5 million guaranteed. The deal would make Johnson the highest-paid right tackle in the NFL in terms of guaranteed money, according to Shorr-Parks' report. Terms of the deal have not officially been disclosed.
Zach Berman also adds that this contract extension is part of a new deal. Johnson had one year left on his rookie contract, but the terms of this extension include the 2016 season.
Jeff McLane of the Inquirer reported earlier on Friday that the Eagles and Johnson were "putting the finishing touches" on the new deal, which had been in the works for several weeks.
Johnson was the Eagles first-round draft pick in 2013, taken fourth overall out of Oklahoma. He is about to enter the final year of a four-year, $19.85 million deal.
Johnson was suspended for four games at the start of the 2014 season for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing drug policy, but has otherwise been a reliable member of the Eagles line for the past three seasons, particularly last season when the team struggled with O-line depth.
