Report: Eagles coaching search may be nearing end

The end may be near, in one way or another.

According to CBS Sports Jason La Canfora, the Eagles could be getting closer to hiring their next head coach.

Tim McManus of Birds 24/7 adds that there is a "sense" the Eagles could announce a new coach as soon as Thursday. That would eliminate Doug Pederson and McManus adds that Ben McAdoo would seem to be the frontrunner in that case.

The Eagles reportedly are finished interviewing candidates, as Pederson told Jeff McLane of the Inquirer, and just need to make the final decision.

As of Thursday night, McAdoo was officially hired by the New York Giants, removing another candidate from the list.

That said, La Canfora's report says a lot about where the Eagles search may be heading.

There is no confirmation that anything is truly close, as this is just La Canfora expressing his sense that now that Adam Gase is with Miami and Hue Jackson is with Cleveland, other teams may complete their hirings sooner.

That said, consider his timeline.

If the Eagles were to hire a coach officially in the next 24-48 hours, it would not be Pederson, who still has to coach the Kansas City Chiefs in Saturday's AFC Divisional Round against New England. This leaves running back coach Duce Staley, interim head coach Pat Shurmur, McAdoo and former Giants head coach Tom Coughlin.

As the search has gone on, it seems that the Eagles seem more set on Pederson than any other candidate, but really there is no true front runner.

La Canfora's report also tells us nothing new in the Eagles search, other than to keep a close watch on things in the next two days.
